Littleport Flower Club Is Blooming

‘Spring is sprung, the grass is ris’… Yes, it was so early this year after what has seemed a winter of continuous rain. Gardens had benefitted, of course, and look glorious. Many Flower Club members who purchased tulips from the Club stall, were very pleased with the types chosen and enjoyed cheerful displays in tubs and borders. Spring was also the start of our Club year with the AGM which was held in March.

There have been a number of changes to the organisation of our meetings over the past year and the Committee have been delighted that Members have been happy to try out new ideas. Change is never easy but it has been a pleasure to receive generally good feedback and a few suggestions. Our aim will always be to make our meetings friendly, comfortable and fun. A major change though has been that of our name, to Littleport & District Flower Club, reflecting an increase in the number of members we welcome who live outside Littleport. A celebration is planned with tea, cake and the Village Hall decorated with bunting displaying our new name.

Our June meeting is on the 27th and will be an Open Meeting with NAFAS National demonstrator, Avril Hill. Her title ‘A Summer Song’ promises to give us an entertaining and lively evening. Avril is competing in the World Show in Dublin as is our Chair, Moira Neville. We wish them both success. A number of Club members will be travelling over to Dublin to see their work first hand. Tickets for this Open Meeting are £12 for visitors and include a buffet supper.

The Summer promises to be a busy one with a group participating in the Flower Festival to be held in Bury St Edmunds Cathedral from 24 to 27 July. Full details will be advertised locally soon.

Our gardens take up more of our time in the better weather but we would be pleased to welcome you to any of our meetings. We meet in the Village Hall. Our Secretary, Pam Sole – telephone 01353 863421 – will be pleased to give you full details of the meetings and has tickets for the Open Meeting on 27 June. We look forward to seeing you over the Summer.
