Millfield School Littleport

I should like to extend a very warm welcome to staff, children and parents who are new to Millfield; I hope very much that by the time you read this, the new members of our school community will feel very happy and settled.

We are all enjoying our newly expanded building and loving the additional space it has given us. Just one week before the start of the new academic year, the builders left our site having been with us for nearly a year and a half. The project included 4 additional classrooms, a new staff room, meeting room and a redesign of our front entrance and administration rooms. I have to say Coulson builders were a pleasure to work with, and the project ran pretty smoothly and to time. It felt a little ‘manic’ towards the very end, trying to get new furniture into classrooms and offices over the summer break, with just one week to relocate and sort out the offices and admin area, but over time the memory has faded and it was all worth it!

I am delighted to say that this year we are expanding our music provision with instrumental teaching to all of our year 3 children – they are throwing themselves into it with great enthusiasm! In addition, we are embarking upon the teaching of modern foreign languages – our year 6 children will be learning Spanish and those in years 3, 4 and 5 learning French.

I should like to extend a very special ‘thank you’ to FP McCann Ltd who kindly donated £2000 to the school. You can see in the picture below, some of our reception children and their teacher, Mrs Hopkins, receiving the cheque. Following the completion of our building project and the landscaping of parts of the grounds, we plan to set up an Allotment Club. We shall use the money to get it all set up – for purchasing timber for raised beds, a potting shed and other necessary items of gardening equipment. We will get the area set up over the autumn term so that in the new year, all will be ready for the launch of our Allotment Club at the start of the growing season. Thank you.
