On Saturday 8th October the second semi-annual Littleport Basketball Cup Finals took place at Littleport Leisure Centre. The event started at 6pm with a third place trophy game between hosts Littleport Zalgiris and Mildenhall High Town Pirates. While the Zalgiris were leading most of the game, the Pirates continued to pressure the hosts and had a one point lead in last quarter. However the Zalgiris men held their composure and managed to claw back the lead and secured a rather comfortable win and received a third place trophy that can be inspected at Leisure Centre’s Hall of Fame. MVP for the game was Paulius Adomaitis who scored 15 points, shooting three 3 point shots during the game.
Immediately after the game a three point shooting competition took place. There were 8 participants, 2 from each team. The winner was Daivaras Visinskis from Cambridge Svyturys, second place went to Bronius Preidzius also from Svyturys and third place went to Jonas Pranevicius from the Littleport Lions team. Best results was achieved by Daivaras Visinskis during the semi-final shoot out scoring 10 out of 20.
At around 8:30 the main trophy game started between another Littleport team, Lions and guests from Cambridge – Svyturys. Lions gained an early lead holding onto it through the second quarter but then Svyturys improved their game and were leading for the most of the remaining game. The last couple of minutes produced a real thriller with a few lead changes and dramatic foul free shots being missed by Littleport Lions players which ultimately cost them a win in this game. Final result was 86:80 with a Svyturys win and collecting the main trophy. Game MVP was elected Ovidijus Visinskis.
Overall the evening again proved to be a success with really close and competitive games and fun for all of the spectators that turned up to watch the event.
