Looking Back at 2016 with the Women’s Institute

Since the 2015 celebration of 100 years of the formation of WI, things have been a little quieter this year.

This has enabled one of our talented members to address the problems of the village sign. Miriam Farrell, along with a few other members, have been working hard and progressing with the renovation.

We have had some very interesting and entertaining speakers, including talks on West Stow Saxon Village, Hearing Dogs for the Deaf, home delivery precooked meals, and a talk with exercise demonstration by Poss-ability. There were demonstrations of how to make marzipan roses (some were not so rosy, but fun), Indian cooking with delicious samples, beauty treatment, a talk and demonstration of Tudor Costumes, and a quiz by Peter Allen.

At our 94th Birthday Party, we had an amusing talk about early school life and its little quirks, followed by a ploughman’s supper and singing by Kathryn Buck.

Tuesday November 8th was our AGM, and a talk was given by farmer John Bedford.

We have enjoyed many visits to other WI’s as well as outings run by one of our valuable committee members.

The craft afternoon held on the 3rd Tuesday of the month in the Day Centre of the Village Hall have been very popular and productive.

The WI also support the Black Horse Drove Community by organising teams to go to their popular quiz evenings.

A full programme has been planned for 2017.

Dates for our next four meetings are 13th December 2016, 10th January, 14th February and 14th March 2017, in the Village Hall at 7.15 pm. Littleport
