The club is growing and we hope to enrol our 20th member very soon.
We meet at the Adams Heritage Centre in Main Street, in Littleport, usually on the first Sunday of each month.
Our Easter event at the Almonry in Ely was very successful, lots of children enjoyed hunting for Easter eggs and crafts with a Tombola for the adults and refreshments were enjoyed by all.
On a more sombre note, our headquarters in America sent nearly $100,000 to help alleviate the disaster in Mozambique.
Lions Club International respond to local and international disasters and also send special mobile equipment that turns dirty water into clean drinking water in minutes.
We take clean drinking water for granted in this country, but lots of Indian villages now have new drinking pumps in villages paid for and installed by Lions’ donations.
On a local note we collect used spectacles to be sent to third world countries as well as to homeless charities in the UK.
They can be left at Loach & Wades and also at Adams Heritage Centre both in Littleport.
“Thank you Lions” said a 93 year old gentleman in Honduras, “I can now read my bible for the first time in 15 years.”
We will have a stall at Aquafest in Ely on Sunday 7th July, so come and say hello and have a go at our ‘Win every time soft toy Tombola!’
