Littleport Peacock’s Meadow Update

Littleport Peacock’s Meadow Update

Deb Curtis, Chair of the Friends of the Woodland Garden committee tells us about a great day in October! The 14th October was a big day for volunteers in Peacocks Meadow, Littleport’s community woodland garden. An army of helpers turned out in glorious sunshine to lay a path and trim and tidy a huge amount of ground, in preparation for the siting of planters and benches. An energetic group of Main St Co-op staff gave…

Littleport WI – New Visitors Welcome!

Littleport WI – New Visitors Welcome!

As winter is with us, it would be a good time to think about coming along on a Tuesday evening once a month (the second Tuesday) to visit our thriving WI. You get the chance to try your hand at different crafts, hear a variety of speakers, watch demonstrations and meet new people and make new friends. As the Village Hall was closed due to being redecorated in August, we met in the parish room…

Littleport Royal British Legion

Littleport Royal British Legion

I need to start his article on a sad note. On Friday 7 July 2017 Rex Strawson passed away. Rex was, for many years, the Branch Chairman of Littleport Royal British Legion. At a time when recruiting new members, in particular committee members, was difficult Rex played a vital part in keeping the Legion alive in this community. On behalf of the current committee members I would like to pay tribute to his work and…

Poppy Appeal 2016

At the time of writing it gives me a great deal of happiness to report that the 2016 poppy Appeal currently stands at £8800. This sum stands close to the highest final amount that has been raised in Littleport ever. The branch hope that for the first time the Appeal total will pass £9000. Between now and the end of the Appeal in September the branch will be holding two further fund raisers. The first…

Every year they organise the May Day ‘Crowning Around’ event that raises huge amounts for charity, and every Christmas they help raise funds for and deliver presents to children in hospital for Christmas. Kaitlin Duffern promoted a big event, the Littleport Christmas Fair, at the Leisure Centre in November supported by many local businesses, trades-people and private individuals with a super raffle…

Millfield School

A Look Back As always, the end of the school year in the summer was very busy but great fun for the children. Sports day took place with a slightly different format, with key stage 2 in the morning and key stage 1 in the afternoon – the weather was ideal, the children did themselves proud and it was lovely to see so many parents and grandparents enjoying the day; the plan for the day…

The WI Gets Cleaning

The WI Gets Cleaning

Littleport WI has been exceptionally busy these last few weeks, having organised and taken part in the cleaning and repainting of the Littleport Village sign. The original sign was donated to the village in 1984 to commemorate the WI’s 75th anniversary and the new one installed in 2001. It was crafted in seasoned oak by sculptor Jeremy Turner and is extremely impressive – depicting many aspects of the history and life of Littleport. However, it…
