Current members of Littleport & District Flower Club gathered to celebrate its 55th anniversary at Littleport Village Hall on Friday 15th September when members and visitors enjoyed a wonderful evening celebrating this milestone.
Chairman Pam Hayes welcomed everyone and introduced Louise Richards, the President and a Member for over 39 years, who opened the evening giving a short synopsis of the past 55 years and explaining that the Club was formed by Gwen Gilbert with a meeting held in the Hall of the Martin School, Littleport when both ladies and gentleman were invited. The Club was very active from the start with not only monthly meetings but members taking part in shows and festivals in the area. We are now in 2017 and with the efforts of many people the Club is still going strong and hopefully will continue to do so.
Jo Poulter was the Demonstrator for the evening. Her title was ‘All Shapes and Sizes’ and she did 6 lovely arrangements depicting all the shapes used within the Flower Arranging World and these were raffled at the end of the evening. Jo was entertaining and the Hall was filled with laughter at some of her anecdotes which all helped to make the evening very special.
The cake was donated to the Club by Maggie Bunting and Janet Neal, the cake was amazing and made by Maggie’s daughter Rachel, a very talented artist in her own right.
Littleport Flower Arranging Club continues to thrive despite some setbacks, due to the enthusiasm of the present Committee and all of the Members that continue to come along and support it. These Members are not only from Littleport but outlying Villages such as Soham and Haddenham which is why the name was changed from Littleport Flower Arranging Club to Littleport & District three years ago.
We welcome new Members to come along, please start as a Visitor at the cost of £5 and see if you enjoy our evenings, we are renowned for being a friendly and welcoming Club and we’re sure once you get to see the Demonstrations doing their beautiful arrangements, you will learn by just looking and listening and be able to go home and have a go on your own.
