Littleport and East Cambs Academy continues its journey this year as it steadily grows the team and the numbers of students. We have had unprecedented numbers of applications for September 2020 so we are delighted with the reputation LECA has formed in the past few years and look forward to welcoming more new students later in the year.
In preparation for the new academic year, much work has been done behind scenes. We have started the process for Year 9 Options with a Careers Fair and a Parent Information Evening and we will shortly be holding another Options evening so parents and students can talk to subject specialists about their potential choices. We will then open our Options Portal so students can make their final choices online and we can plan the timetable.
In addition to the curriculum planning, we are currently in the middle of a recruitment drive to ensure we have all the teachers in place to deliver our current and new subjects. Some of the new subjects on offer at Key Stage 4 will be Business and Enterprise, Health and Social Care and Media, all of which we’re really excited about starting. To help the drive, we hosted a ‘Teach at LECA’ event for teachers in January and this was fantastically well attended by teachers from many different subjects and career stages. From that event, we have already received applications for a number of positions so we feel sure we will have a full complement of staff in September.
The students, as always, have been kept busy both in and out of school. We have gymnasts, roller skaters, martial artists, golfers and many more mini superstars on our roll at LECA! They are always telling us what they have been doing at the weekends and they often come in with more medals and trophies. In team sports, we compete well in our fixtures with our latestYear 9 boys football fixture ending in a 3-2 loss in a hard-fought game. All the teams always do us proud.
This year we are very proud to announce that we have achieved the Arts Mark Gold Award. This is awarded to schools who consistently celebrate the Arts by weaving opportunities throughout the curriculum. As part of the Award, we also hosted a number of live events at LECA including theatre workshops and concerts. The students at LECA really enjoy practical, fun lessons so this really played to our strengths. With thanks to our amazing ar t teacher, Ms Way who coordinated the application and gathered all the evidence so we were successful.
