Turning to the businesses of the Holmes’ family, The Other Shop which is run mainly by Matt’s wife Dawn will be moving into the Holmes Furnishers premises making it easier to run their businesses under one roof and cutting costs down as well. This month they will also be running another furniture shop this time in Ely since David Gibbs announced his retirement. And as Matt explained:
“Since taking over the carpet shop in Littleport, I have been overwhelmed with the support and custom from the local community. Introducing made-to-measure blinds and curtains has not only brought another string to our bow but has also introduced us to a wider customer base. After Dawn was made redundant in early 2014 we decided to open a second shop (The Other Shop) to supply products not readily available locally. This shop has also been well supported and has a loyal customer base.
Early this year David Gibbs in Ely retired and he has been passing his curtain and soft furnishing customers to us, and this side of the business has increased dramatically. Given that a lot of this business is in Ely and the fact that another carpet shop in Ely is closing due to retirement we have made the decision to open premises in Ely. As a consequence we will be merging the two Littleport shops, so you will still be able to visit us in Littleport for carpets & blinds and for gifts etc. The carpet shop has been in Littleport for 40 years and we don’t have any plans to close it.The Ely shop will open on 1st September but please bear with us over the coming weeks whilst we get set-up both there and in Littleport; opening hours may be irregular this month whilst we change things around. The new shop will be in Interiors of Ely, Chequer Lane, Ely.
Thank you all for your support”.
