Time to Bank Some Litter Picking

The Littleport Timebank members wanted to do something positive for the community, and so with this in mind, we decided that undertaking a litterpick was a positive way that everyone could get stuck in, and get involved. With input from Cambridge County Council, Amey Cespa and East Cambs Council, the date and location was set for half term so that even our youngest members could participate.

The weather was bright and sunny and volunteers from the Timebank, Cambs County Council, East Cambs Council, Amey Cespa, local business, AC Tree Surgery and Garden Care and those who had heard about it through Facebook and word of mouth came along to join in.

Meeting on Parsons Lane outside St Georges Medical Centre, we split up into pairs and armed with our specially printed Littleport Timebank hi-vis vests printed by local company Sigma embroidery, gloves, littergrabbers and waste bags, we set off! We were surprised by how much we were able to collect around the medical centre, towards the highstreet, around St Georges church and up to the end of Parsons Lane, and within 2 hours, we had collected 30 bags of rubbish and litter! A great job done and a sense of satisfaction that we had helped tidy up our doorstep.

We rounded off a productive morning with bacon rolls donated by the Cambridge Housing Society and free refreshments from YPL, and are looking to plan the next pick for the summer time. If you want to find out more, please get in touch with the Timebank Co-ordinator at: caline.easey@chsgroup.org.uk
