Award for Players

The Littleport Players have been a feature and focus in the village for many years, but the focus on our local group has been on a national level recently, when they won a prestigious National Operatic Dramatic Association award. The theatre group picked up the award for Best Technical (costumes, set and make- up) for their production of The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe. Several members attended the awards ceremony in St Ives to receive the award. Becky Green, Chair, said: “We knew we had been nominated and we were absolutely thrilled to have won – it is such an achievement for the group and definitely some great news for Littleport. Well done everyone!”

The first ever show put on by the players was ‘Aladdin’ – a ‘potted pantorhyme’ with the whole performance performed in meter and rhyme. One such member of that group – a drama student in his final GCSE year was Nick Brown, at only 15 he played the part of Aladdin’s arch enemy Abanaza.

Of course Nick is now better known as Senior Minister of the local Spiritualists’ Church and Chair and Layout Editor of this Magazine, but he does look very fondly upon his time on the stage and attributes his involvement in the group as being a key factor behind his continued community interaction. In one particular show, he played ‘Puss’ in Puss in Boots, the third Panto put on by the group afew years later, alongside Players’ current Chair, Becky Green, as you will see from the picture.
