So goes the old song writes Lyn Gibb-de Swarte. Littleport Brass was unable to meet for band practice as they would normally do on a Wednesday night, but they have been playing on throughout the past troubles. They gave their first recorded video – a masterpiece in timing organised by MD Ian Knapton audio editing by Joe Winters of JW – with band members playing in their own homes and the mosaic performance was posted on the new YouTube channel, Littleport Brass.
As well as continuing to practice band members have played in public in individual performances for their neighbours on many occasions, many like Sara Bowe, who played outside their houses instead of clapping, to thank the NHS and key workers who soldiered on through it all at work. And when the Brass Bands of England put the call out, Littleport Brass musicians were out there with thousands of brass band members on the same day at the same time playing Somewhere Over the Rainbow.
They also had a variety of game playing evenings on electronic devices like Bingo, Race Nights, Murder Mystery and Would I Lie to You and so on!
They are still open for more players. Musical Director Ian Knapton says. “The band only has a couple of seats to fill. We do have interest in these seats already and will be giving each player time with the band to see if they fit in with us and we with them. Current vacancies are Bass trombone and percussion/kit player (we are looking into funding to purchase more percussion equipment in the future). If you are interested in any of these vacant positions please visit our website www.littleportbrass.co.uk or message us on Facebook. We welcome any other players as well.”
