The Field Theatre Group are delighted to announce that they have received a Heritage Lottery grant for activities to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the Littleport and Ely Riots.
Following on from the success of our recent community projects, Littleport Festival Fourteen and The Horseman’s Word, residents are invited to participate in a variety of fascinating project strands.
The project, entitled Riot in the Blood will involve the creation of a ‘digital narrative’ which will document the riots and the events leading up to them. The Field will recreate the events, using stills photography and a narrative. We are looking for residents of all ages to participate in this: as technicians and crew, re-enactors or researchers. We are particularly interested in hearing from anyone who is a descendent of any of the convicted rioters, as these links to the present day form an important part of the project.
We will also be leading a procession in June of next year, to lay wreaths on the unmarked grave of the five hanged men from Littleport.
There are activities for families too. A series of costumed re-enactment walks combined with a treasure hunt for younger children will take place around Littleport during May of next year.
Anyone who is interested in taking part please contact. The director, Field Theatre Group. thefieldtheatregroup@hotmail.co.uk
