I need to start his article on a sad note. On Friday 7 July 2017 Rex Strawson passed away. Rex was, for many years, the Branch Chairman of Littleport Royal British Legion.
At a time when recruiting new members, in particular committee members, was difficult Rex played a vital part in keeping the Legion alive in this community.
On behalf of the current committee members I would like to pay tribute to his work and offer our commiserations to his family in their loss. We Will Remember Him.
On a happier note by the time this edition of Littleport Life lands on your doormat the Royal British Legion poppy Appeal for 2016 will be nearing its finish.
In the last edition I mentioned the hope that the 2016 appeal would top £9000 for the first time ever in Littleport.
Now I’m delighted to report the £9000 target has been passed and we may even manage to reach £10,000. The Funday at the Leisure Centre, the Armed Forces Day bucket collection and the sale of our Summer Draw tickets have all been well supported.
So once again many thanks to all those people who support our efforts to raise money; to help those service and ex-service personnel who find themselves in need of our help.
