As I write this, the school year has come to an end- I would say we have survived the year, but what would be more appropriate would be ‘we have survived the heat!’ It has been another busy term with lots of wonderful enrichment activities taking place that will hopefully give the children lasting memories.
Our Year 1 and 2 children had the opportunity to take part in a sleepover in the school hall- very exciting when you are 5, 6 or 7 years old and may never have slept away from home. The children took part in a range of outside activities, had tea around a fire, had a good night’s sleep in the hall, enjoyed breakfast together- all in all, a good time was had by all!
These 2 year groups also enjoyed a day trip to Banham Zoo on another occasion.
Our reception children had a wonderful day at the Sea Life Centre at Hunstanton as part of their learning linked to sea creatures.
Following a few weeks work, Year 3 and 4 children produced some very special information leaflets about the Fens and the plants and wildlife that make up the very special environment in which we live. A visit to the Great Fen started off this learning and the impact of the day was evident in the leaflets the children put together.
Year 5 visited an inflatable planetarium– in the school hall! This was an exciting way for them to enhance their learning about the planets and solar system. The home learning projects that were linked to this were amazing- thank you parents and grandparents if you helped with these!
Our end of year whole school performance was a little different this year -‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’. I have to say the children all did an amazing job – they learnt their words well, expressed them clearly and with expression and sang their hearts out! A Shakespeare workshop for a day certainly paid dividends.
Friends of Millfield always do so much to help raise funds for the school and help out in other ways. Recently the children brought in coins of small denominations to complete a picture, with the proceeds going to the school- we call this ‘Coin Art’. Special thanks must go to the BP M&S garage who kindly donated a tasty breakfast for all our Year 6 children during Sats week- thank you for the croissants, pain au chocolat etc!
