The new school year at Millfield has started well and we have welcome some new members of staff.
Ms Rudkin has joined key stage 1 and Ms Turner key stage 2. We welcome back Ms Atkin joined the School when I did back in September 2011 and has had a short break to spend time at home with family – it’s lovelt that she wanted to return.
Ms Woodbridge has taken on a permanent role as a class teacher with Ms Atkin and Ms Ashby has become a permanent member of staff, specialising in PE provision. They are all strong teachers and Millfield children are fortunate to have them.
Soon into the year, Year 6 chidlren took part in a residential visit to PGL Caythorpe in Lincolnshire.
We have been a number of times and it never ceases to amaze me how very different children can be away from school and home – those who you think might not enjoy such physical activity absolutely thrive on it, and those parents who say their child “won’t eat this, won’t eat that”… Well, all I can say is, it’s amazing what days of physical activity out in the fresh air can do for their appetites!
Year 4 this year went to Whitwell Hall which was a new venture for us. Previously we have done a similar residential, under canvas, at Cuffley Camp; but that has sadly closed so we found a similar centre in Norfolk.
The weather was fantastic and so too were the children – undertaking such as activities as fire and den building, bat walks and river dipping, and then of course, peeling potatoes (‘Potato peeler? What’s thats?’ was heard by staff!) and then cooking their food on a camp fire.
